Photoshop CS5 Basics Tutorial

Earlier Photoshop Tutorials
Skies, red black and white, 3D text, bicubic sharper, wood grain texture, rubber band, dotted lines, selections, warping text, etc.

This tutorial will deal with some basic concepts in Photoshop CS5. Open 2 images in a viewing program, one of them will be superimposed over the other one. Right click on the one that will be used as a bacground and copy it. Then go to Photoshop CS5 and go File - New in the top menu bar. Photoshop will automatically size the new window to the file that you have copied. Paste the background photo into Photoshop and click on the Selection Tool and hit keys Control + A(Select All). This will select the whole photo.

Then go to menu item Filter - Blur - Gaussian Blur and select a blur setting about 4 to 6. Click OK. Then go to the foreground image and Copy it. Then click menu item File - New and create a new file and paste the foreground photo into it. Then click on the Magic Wand Selection Tool. This allows you to delete a certain colour that you will select. Shift select all the background colour of the foreground photo, then go Select - Inverse and this will select the parts that you want. Then click Control + C to copy this selection and go to your background image and paste it into that (Control + V).

Move the foreground image wherever you want it. To make it bigger or smaller, click Control + T and hold the shift key to keep the proportions intact while you drag a corner to make it bigger or smaller. Then you can use the Eraser Tool to delete any more bits of the foreground image that you want. Click Filter - Liquify and use this to merge out any bad overlays that you have made. Right click on the foreground layer and put in a drop shadow and set it to about 50% and an outer glow set to a black colour. As well as a black inner glow.
